The Arnett Gardens Sports Foundation, (USA), Inc. was established on December 3, 2007. The Foundation’s immediate goal is to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Arnett Gardens Sports Council as well as to commemorate the 30th year since the community was crowned Double Champions for winning the KSAFA Major League and JFF, National Premier League competitions. To date, no other Jamaican team has attained that feat in these competitions.
The Sports Foundation was also established to assist in the development of the community, through sponsorship of sports programs. We are all concerned about the continued violence in the Arnett Gardens and surrounding communities. It is our view that we can be critical like everyone else or we can stay here in the States and make a small yet meaningful contribution towards reducing the daily killings that is going on. Today, there is very little organized recreational sports league in the community. No Corner League football has been played for several years. We need to provide resources to help the honest and visionary leaders who have to face the day-to-day problems on the front line. Let us come together and send whatever we can so that the community will be better positioned to plan and operate meaningful recreational and educational programs for the kids.
The community currently has limited training facility and/or trade training program. The Sports Foundation intends to seek ways in which we can work with elected officials, churches and civic leaders to increase these resources. It is easy to criticize and blame the youths for all that is going wrong. Let us make a difference by providing activities as an alternative to the weapons of vicious destruction that are in the hands of many youths.
It is our view that you can be a part of the solution even though you are miles away. We are inviting you to join us in the resurrection of Arnett Gardens and adjoining communities, by making a monetary contribution. More importantly, you will be contributing to programs that will assist in increasing anti-violent behavior in Arnett Gardens and surrounding communities. This is an opportunity for you to be in the vanguard of a change movement that is designed to tackle violence. Let us not forget that a Long Journey begins with one step.
